The Civil Police of Goiás denied, this Monday (23), any change in the lines of investigation into the death of Thales Machado, Secretary of Government of Itumbiara, and his two sons, Miguel and Benício.
The corporation’s note appears to stop rumors that new facts could point to a different authorship of the crime. The main hypothesis worked by the police is that Thales shot his two children and then took his own life.
According to the city’s GIH (Homicide Investigations Group), the investigation into the Itumbiara case follows the same planning adopted from the beginning. The information is from Metrópoles.

What the witnesses said about the Itumbiara case
The Itumbiara case, which shocked the south of Goiás and Brazil, occurred in Condomínio Paraíso. Witness statements detail the scenario encountered by neighbors shortly after Thales posted on a social network that he intended to take his children’s lives and, subsequently, his own.
Upon entering the property, residents found the following scene:
- Thales Machado: secretary found dead on the bed, with a .380 Glock pistol on his chest.
- The children: Miguel (12 years old) and Benício (8 years old) were next to their father with gunshot wounds to the head.
- Socorro: The children were taken to the hospital. Miguel passed away shortly afterwards; Benício was transferred in serious condition, but he also did not resist.

In addition to the gunshots, witnesses reported a strong smell of fuel in the apartment. Forensics located two empty gallons of gasoline, indicating that the material was spread throughout the environment before the fatal outcome.
The apparent motivation for the Itumbiara case, according to posts made by the secretary moments before the crime, would be linked to crises in his marriage with his wife, Sarah Tinoco Araújo. In his farewell text, Thales apologized to his family and stated that he had reached his “limit”. The night before, he had made a final declaration of love to his children on the internet.
