Azerbaijan has provided assurances that it will not permit its territory to be used for any attacks against its neighbor, Iran. This statement comes amidst concerns from Tehran regarding potential Israeli actions, given the close relationship between Israel and Azerbaijan.

For a long time, Tehran has voiced concerns that Israel, a weapons provider to Azerbaijan, might exploit Azerbaijani territory, a former Soviet Republic in the Caucasus, located northwest of Iran, to launch attacks.

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, jeyhun Bayramov, conveyed to his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghty, that Azerbaijan would “Never allow its territory to be used for attacks on third countries, including Iran friend.”

During a telephone conversation with Mr. Araghty, Mr. Bayramov cautioned that the “Conflict was likely to swallow up the whole region” and urged “Diplomatic efforts to prevent a new escalation,” according to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry of Affairs press service, as reported by AFP.

The ministry further stated that Bakou facilitated ground transit via its border following Iran’s closure of its airspace in response to Israeli bombings.
