Tel Aviv –
Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz said that the military had planned to kill Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However, the killers who were looking for Khamenei had not found the opportunity to attack.
Reported AljazeeraFriday (6/27/2025) this was conveyed by Katz in an interview with Channel 13 Israel. Katz said that the Israeli agent “was looking for” Khamenei, but they could not find “operational opportunities” to carry out attacks.
Iranian authorities have warned that Israel may still try to kill Khamenei even though the ceasefire is taking place.

Katz also said that he “did not see the situation where Iran would restore nuclear facilities” which were attacked by US and Israeli forces.
He added that Tehran’s ability to build “totally destroyed” nuclear weapons.
However, in his first speech since the ceasefire, Khamenei said the US attack “did not do a significant thing” on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The plan to kill Khamenei has been echoed by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu during a conflict with Iran. However, the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump rejected Israel’s plan to kill Iran’s supreme leader.
“We know that Israel has a plan to attack Iran’s supreme leader. President Trump opposes it and we tell Israel not to do so,” said US officials who were reluctant to be named, reported AFPMonday (6/16/2025).
