After the Senate, the US House of Representatives also rejected a resolution that would have given Congress more say in the war against Iran. As in the Senate the day before, the result was close: 212 members voted for the resolution and 219 against it.
The US House of Representatives narrowly rejected a resolution on the Iran war. The bill would have given Congress more say in military action against Iran.
The result in the House of Representatives was narrow at 212 votes to 219 and provided an overview of the political support for and opposition to the US-Israeli military operation: Republicans largely support US President Donald Trump, most Democrats oppose the war.
“Donald Trump is not a king”
There was also sharp criticism of the president’s actions: “Donald Trump is not a king, and if he believes that the war against Iran is in our national interest, then he must appear before Congress and present his arguments,” said Representative Gregory Meeks, the highest-ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The day before, the US Senate had already rejected a similar proposal along party lines. The outcome in the House of Representatives therefore only had symbolic meaning – it would have needed to be passed in both chambers of Congress.
