The protests in Iran against the high cost of living that have been going on for 12 days could widen and trigger a new conflict between the Islamic Republic and its main international adversaries: United States e Israel. So much so that it was the Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah, who spoke to the nation Ali Khameneiattacking Washington e Tel Start who in recent days have fomented the demonstrators and promised to intervene militarily in the event of repression of the protests. “The President of the United States, Donald Trumpshould deal with the problems of his country – declared the leader of Tehran – Some protesters are trying to please Trump by destroying public property”. And he even goes so far as to hypothesize a reversal of the American president: he is “arrogant” and will be “overthrown – he said – The president of the United States should know that all tyrants fell when they were at their peak of their power. He claims that he can act as the father of the Iranian nation, but he should know that the arrogant men of the world, like the Pharaoh, Nimrod, Reza Khan e Mohammad Rezawere overthrown at the height of their arrogance. He too will be overthrown.”
Foreign leaders inflame the protest and ask Italian citizens of all cities to move forward without fear, saying they are at their side. But the ayatollah has no intention of giving in under pressure from the USA and Israel: Iran, he continued, “will not retreat an inch from its principles”. Meanwhile, also theEuropean Union stands in support of the demonstrators. The spokesperson of the European Commission, Anouar El Anouniconstated that a Bruxelles “We are closely monitoring the situation in Iran, including the latest developments in the southwestern part of the country. We express our concern about the increasing number of deaths and injuries and we reject any violence against peaceful protesters. The Iranian people are expressing their legitimate aspiration for a better life. Any violence against peaceful protesters is unacceptable. We call on Tehran to respect the rights to freedom of expression and to peacefully reunite and restore Internet access for everyone.”
However, the tension worries the regional powers, so much so that the Turkish Airlines has decided to cancel its five flights scheduled for Friday to Tehran. Another five flights operated by Iranian airlines were cancelled, while seven others remain operational. According to the Flight Radar website, a Turkish Airlines plane headed to Shiraz and a Turkish airline flight Pegasus directed to Mashhad they turned back after entering Iranian space overnight Thursday. A decision, the Turkish media write, for precautionary purposes in view of protests also planned for today after Friday prayers.
