The president of the United States, Donald Trumphe assured this Saturday in an interview with Political what “It is time to look for new leadership in Iran”which ends the almost 37 years of rule of the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
“It is time to look for new leadership in Iran”Trump declared to Political in reference to the protests unleashed throughout the country calling for the end of the regime.
Trump’s message came after Khamenei held the American responsible for the victims and damage suffered in the mobilizations of recent weeks. Which, according to him, were a “plot” by Washington to “devour Iran.”
After learning this information, the American accused the rulers of Tehran of resorting to repression and violence to govern.
“What he is guilty of, as the leader of a country, is the total destruction of the country and the use of violence at levels never seen before“, he noted in the interview.
Trump accused Iran’s leaders of resorting to violence to govern
“To keep the country functioning, even at a very low level, leaders should focus on properly governing their country. Like I do with the United States, and not killing thousands of people to maintain control,” he added.
According to Trump, leadership “is based on respect, not fear and death.”
The mobilizations began on December 28 when merchants in Tehran closed their businesses due to the fall of the rial. But they soon spread throughout the country with cries of “Death to the Islamic Republic” and “Death to Khamenei.”
The protests expanded until Thursday, January 8 and Friday, January 9, reached their peak. Mainly with an explosion of demonstrations in practically all of Iran. Which led to acts of vandalism against public organizations, banks that were razed, and the burning of 53 mosques throughout the country, according to figures from the Iranian government.
Tehran maintains that the economic protests turned violent due to the infiltration of external agents supported by Israel and the United States. This is to justify a military intervention by Washington, which has not occurred until now.
Trump threatened to attack the Persian country if more people diedwhen the death count was seven, and later stated that “help was on the way,” which many interpreted as a warning to intervene.
Khamenei stated this Saturday that “several thousand” people have died in the protests. Opposition NGOs based in exile put the death toll at 3,428 and detainees at 19,000
