Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani announced a retaliatory missile strike that was painful for Israel and the United States and announced a new, more serious attack. This promise was published in the Telegram channel of one of the highest officials of the Islamic Republic.
“Today we will hit them with such force that they have never encountered before,” he emphasized. Larijani did not provide details of the past and upcoming attacks.
The day before, February 28, Israel launched Operation Roar of the Lion. As part of the first stage, he managed to eliminate the country’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who had been in office since 1989, and other significant individuals, including the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Ali Shamkhani and the head of intelligence Gholamreza Rezayan.
President Masoud Pezeshkian was not injured during the attack. Along with the head of the judiciary and one of the members of the Council of Guardians of the Constitution, he will temporarily serve as Khamenei’s duties. During the 2024 elections, Pezeshkian was considered an opponent of Khamenei’s protege; his victory came as a surprise to the authorities.
Earlier, Larijani said that the United States and Israel are seeking to destroy and plunder Iran. In turn, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated that the operation is aimed at eliminating an existential threat, since the “deadly terrorist regime” cannot be allowed to obtain an atomic bomb and threaten all of humanity.
