Iran says it will attack US infrastructure in the Middle East if its power plants are attacked, after President Donald Trump threatened to “attack and obliterate” the country’s facilities if it does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The vital sea lane remains open to all shipping except ships linked to “Iran’s enemies,” Tehran’s representative to the UN maritime agency said.
These are the most recent events of the conflict:
Six dead in helicopter crash: Six people aboard a helicopter in Qatar died when it crashed Sunday morning, according to the country’s Interior Ministry.
Iran vows retaliation: Tehran will attack US infrastructure in the region if Trump carries out his threat, the Mehr agency reported, citing a military spokesman.
Strait of Hormuz: The sea route remains open to all except Iran’s “enemies,” Tehran’s representative to the UN maritime agency said following Trump’s threat, according to state media.
Japan considers demining: Meanwhile, Japan would consider deploying its armed forces to carry out demining efforts in the strait if a ceasefire was reached, its foreign minister said.
Attacks in Israel: Police officers and bomb disposal experts were attending “munition hit sites” in central Israel. In the north, a man died after a direct impact against a vehicle. The attacks came after Saturday’s Iranian bombings of the cities of Arad and Dimona, which left dozens injured, after the missiles apparently penetrated Israel’s defensive system.
Embassy staff forced to leave: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry says Iran’s military attaché, deputy military attaché and three embassy staff have been ordered to leave the country. Tehran has continued to attack its Gulf neighbors.
EU energy warning: The European Commission urged member states to reduce gas storage targets as the war affects critical supplies and drives up energy prices.
