Iran Airspace Closure: Flight Disruptions & Updates

by Archynetys World Desk

According to Flightradar, Tehran issued a NOTAM (“Airmen’s Notice”) stating that the airspace was closed for “just over two hours”.

According to the notification published by this page, the airspace closure takes place from 22:15 GMT on Wednesday (01:45 Iran time) until 00:30 GMT (04:00 in Tehran).

Twenty minutes after the deadline, Iranian airspace remained closed.

According to the same source, the Silk Way West Airlines Boeing 777 was denied entry into Iran on its way to Baku. The flight between Erbil and Baku frequently flies over Iranian airspace.

“IndiGo flight 6E1808 is now the last non-Iran registered passenger aircraft in Iranian airspace,” says the X flight tracking website.
A NOTAM is a message in aviation that informs you of temporary changes or hazards that affect the safety, regularity and efficiency of flights, such as closed runways, inoperative navigational aids or airspace restrictions.

Three hours ago, Flighradar said that topping the list of most tracked flights were six US Air Force KC-135s from Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

This Wednesday, the United States ordered the withdrawal of some soldiers from the Al-Udeid air base as a “precaution”, given the current tension in the region. The air base, which has around ten thousand US troops, was targeted by Iran in June, after the US attacked Iranian nuclear facilities.
