The iPhone has a built-in function that can be invaluable in emergencies, especially when users require immediate medical attention and are separated from family or acquaintances.

Recently, an ambulance paramedic gained traction on TikTok after urging users to activate this feature, emphasizing that it “coudl make the difference.”

Known online as “Mummyneenaw,” the paramedic, who frequently shares content related to their profession, highlighted a specific setting within the iPhone’s default Health app.

This feature includes a medical record function, but the key point stressed by the Tiktoker is that it “can be configured to access from the emergency dial of the iPhone without the need to unlock it,” potentially providing crucial information to paramedics when assisting a patient.

“It will take only a few minutes and you can really make a difference for you and those you love,” said the paramedic, who made the video after attending a serious patient who had no documents or information by hand.

Enabling Emergency Access to Your iPhone Medical ID

To access this setting, navigate to Configuration> apps, then search the health application. Once inside, locate the medical details section and open the medical card tab.

The app will then prompt you to enter essential information such as medications, allergies, emergency contacts, medical conditions, pregnancy status, and organ donor status.

Near the top of the screen, you’ll find an emergency access option labeled “show on lock screen”.

By enabling this setting, Paramedics will be able to access the file by pressing the emergency button which appears in the lower left corner of the iPhone when it is blocked and asks for the password.

“It will take only a few minutes and you can really make a difference for you and those you love.”

@mummyneenaw Just a little request. It’s something so many people don’t know about or don’t think to actually do but it could be incredibly vital. It takes a few minutes of your time and could make all the difference to you and your loved ones. It’s not my usual upload and I’m hoping people remember that in a world where you can be anything, always be kind. #fyp #nhs #ambulance #999 #viral #workingmom #ambulancedriver #ambulanceservice #emergency ♬ original sound – MummyNeeNaw
