A search for the next president of Iowa State University is officially in progress, spearheaded by a committee comprised of Regents and faculty members.
President Wendy Wintersteen announced her retirement plans on May 16.Her career at Iowa State spanned more than 40 years, including her appointment as president in 2017. She is Iowa State’s 16th president, the second alumna to hold the position, and the first woman.
The Iowa Board of Regents accepted Wintersteen’s retirement on May 19. She is scheduled to retire in January 2026, leaving over six months to find her successor.
on June 9, the Iowa Board of Regents revealed the Iowa State University presidential search committee and announced the hiring of a search firm to assist in the process.
Who Will Head the ISU Presidential Search Committee?
Regent JC Risewick will co-chair the search committee along with Iowa state University faculty senate president Meghan Gillette.
“The selection of the next president at Iowa State is a critical task, and we take this role seriously,” Risewick saeid in a Board of regents press release. “we look forward to screening applications and forwarding finalists to the full Board of Regents.”
The committee is composed of 10 individuals, in addition to the two co-chairs. The Regents have selected AGB Search, located in Washington, D.C., to provide support during the search.
“over the coming months, our group will work together to find outstanding candidates to be ISU’s president,” Gillette said in the press release. “I look forward to working with the committee as we help find the next great leader of Iowa State.”

The search committee includes members from the Board of Regents, Iowa State leadership, faculty, and alumni.
