iOS 18.3 Enables Apple Intelligence By Default: What You Need To Know

iOS 18.3 Marks a Milestone in Apple Intelligence’s Development

In the grand scheme of software updates, iOS 18.3 may not stand out as a groundbreaking release. Instead, it focuses on refining existing features and addressing user feedback, primarily by integrating Apple Intelligence into the default iOS experience. This latest update signifies a critical step in the evolution of Apple’s suite of AI-powered tools, setting the stage for more significant improvements to come.

With the initial launch of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 last October, users of compatible iPhones were required to opt-in to these new capabilities manually. However, beginning with iOS 18.3, this process has changed. Apple Intelligence features are now automatically activated, offering a more seamless and user-friendly experience right from the start.

Why Apple Intelligence Isn’t Fully Ready Yet

Despite the automatic activation of Apple Intelligence, the suite of AI tools remains a work in progress. While several features have been polished and improved, others still require refinement. The ability to disable Apple Intelligence from the Settings app also indicates that the company is taking a cautious approach to ensuring a positive user experience.

One of the notable enhancements in iOS 18.3 is the italicization of AI-generated summaries on the lock screen, making it easier for users to distinguish between machine-generated content and personal notifications. Additionally, the Visual Intelligence feature has seen updates that allow iPhone 16 users to add events to their calendar by scanning flyers or posters and identifying plants and animals.

Another significant improvement introduced in iOS 18.2’s developer beta is the Describe Your Change feature, part of the Writing Tools in Apple Intelligence. This enhancement provides greater control over how the AI modifies text, adding depth and functionality to the writing assistant.
