Huntsville Animal Services: 77 Animals Need Homes | News

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

Huntsville Animal Services is asking for the public’s help after authorities removed more than 70 animals from a North Huntsville home last week.

Police were called Thursday to the area of Blue Springs Road after reports that dozens of small dogs were running loose in the roadway. When officers arrived, they saw the dogs coming from a nearby residence with its door open, according to Huntsville police. Officers entered the home and found several more animals inside, many kept in crates and cages. Investigators filed a report for animal cruelty, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Huntsville Animal Services said it took in 77 animals from the home, most of them small dogs. The sudden intake has placed the shelter at what officials describe as a level 4 crisis, meaning it is in overflow and urgently needs adoptions and foster placements. Officials said the dogs recovered from the home will not be eligible for adoption or foster care for several days while they are evaluated and treated. In the meantime, the shelter says dozens of other animals are available and need homes immediately.

WAAY is working to determine whether the owner or owners of these dogs will face criminal charges. Stick with WAAY for updates on this case.
