Nadiem Makarim was named a suspect by AGO with Article 2 paragraph 1 or Article 3 juncto Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to RI Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Crimes in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the 1st of the Criminal Code.

For information, previously Nadiem had been examined twice in the case. Nadiem was examined for the first time on Monday (6/23), which lasted around 12 hours. Then, Nadiem was again examined on Tuesday (7/15) for about 9 hours.
Then on Thursday (4/9), it was the third examination of Nadiem. Nadiem has also been prevented abroad for the next 6 months since June 19, 2025.
The AGO has named five suspects in the alleged corruption case in the Ministry of Research and Technology in the 2019-2022 period of education digitization program. This case is thought to cause state losses of Rp 1.98 trillion.
The five suspects are:
1. Director of Elementary School Directorate General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education and Secondary Education 2020-2021, Sri Wahyuningsih (SW);
2. Director of SMP Kemendikbudristek 2020, Mulyatsyah (Mul);
3. Special Staff of the Minister of Education and Culture of Government in the Era of the Minister of Research and Technology of the Nadiem Makarim, Jurist Tan (JT/JS);
4. Individual Consultant Design of Improvement of School Resource Management Technology Infrastructure in the Ministry of Research and Technology, Ibrahim Arief (Ibam);
5. Minister of Education and Culture 2019-2024, Nadiem Anwar Makarim (NAM).
Hotman Claims Prove Nadiem Not Involved
Hotman, who is a lawyer of Nadiem, invites all Indonesian people to be involved in a just law enforcement effort. He emphasized that his client did not commit corruption in the case.
“All the Indonesian people want the law to be upheld and this is the time I will prove that Nadiem Makarim does not commit a criminal act of corruption, but why is he detained?” Hotman said in his Instagram account as quoted on Saturday (5/9/2025). Hotman has allowed AFP to quote his statement.
Hotman then ‘poked’ President Prabowo Subianto to summon the Attorney General’s Office and asked for the Nadiem case to be held at the palace. He will prove that Nadiem does not commit acts of corruption.
“Mr. Prabowo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, if indeed you really want to uphold justice, please call the prosecutor’s office and call me as a legal counsel from Nadiem Makarim, the title of his case at the Palace and I will prove: One, Nadiem Makarim does not receive a single cent. Two, there is no markup in the procurement of laptops. Three, no one is enriched,” said Hotman.
“Once again, I only need 10 minutes to prove it in front of Mr. Prabowo, who was once my 25 -year -old client,” he added.
Palace response
The Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) Hasan Nasbi answered Hotman Paris who requested Prabowo when protesting about the determination of the suspect to Nadiem. What said Hasan Nasbi?

He said the government did not interfere in the legal process of Nadiem, who was a suspect in corruption in the procurement of chromebook laptops in the Ministry of Education and Culture. The government, said Hasan, fully handed over the legal process to the Attorney General’s Office.
“We just leave it to law enforcers. The government does not intervene in legal proceedings,” Hasan told reporters on Saturday (5/9/2025).
AGO asks to let the investigator walk
Kapuspenkum Attorney General Anang Supriatna did not say much about Hotman’s request. He only said that the investigation process would continue according to the provisions.
“This case is in the investigation stage. Let it go according to the provisions and we respect the principle of presumption of innocence against the person concerned,” Anang said, Saturday (6/9/2025).
According to Anang, investigators will explore all parties involved in the case. Simultaneously the truth will also be revealed.
“Let the investigators explore to uncover all legal facts and the parties involved later,” Anang said.
