Community Mourns Loss of Juana Castillo to Gallbladder Cancer; Family seeks Support for Repatriation

A North Carolina family and teh wider community are in mourning following the death of Juana Castillo, a devoted mother who succumbed to an aggressive battle with stage 4 gallbladder cancer. The family now faces the challenge of repatriating her remains to Mexico.

A Mother’s Valiant Fight

Juana Castillo’s diagnosis came earlier this year, with her daughter, Maria Castillo, sharing the news of her mother’s condition in February. Despite undergoing chemotherapy in March, Juana’s health rapidly declined due to liver failure, highlighting the aggressive nature of gallbladder cancer, which, according to recent studies, frequently enough presents with advanced stages at diagnosis, impacting treatment outcomes.

unfulfilled Hope for Specialized Treatment

The family had launched a fundraising campaign to facilitate Juana’s transfer to a specialized treatment center in Kansas, hoping for a miraculous recovery. Regrettably, despite their best efforts and the generosity of the community, Juana passed away on the evening of April 14, just hours after being discharged from the hospital.

“thank you all for your donations and prayers,” María said in an emotional message. “Even though we fail to make the trip, we still ask for its support to be able to take it home.”

The Urgent Need for Repatriation Support

Now,the castillo family faces a new and pressing challenge: securing the necessary funds to transport Juana’s remains to Mexico. Her eldest daughter and other family members await her arrival, wishing to give her a proper farewell and burial in her homeland. The financial burden of international repatriation can be important, often placing immense strain on grieving families.
