Of all things at these sub-zero temperatures: a fire triggered a power outage in Hamburg-Othmarschen. More than 340 households and a retirement home were affected.

There was a fire in the basement of a residential accommodation for young people on Bernadottestrasse late on Sunday morning. A transformer, which is used to supply power to the entire area, was damaged. In the meantime, 23 residents of a retirement home were cared for in a large-capacity fire department ambulance. One person was taken to hospital as a precaution and the fire itself was quickly extinguished.

The cause of the fire is still unclear

The Hamburg energy networks sent several relief teams with two emergency generators. The heating was quickly running again and the damage was quickly repaired. All those affected then returned to their accommodation. According to the Hamburg energy network, it only took a little longer to restore the power supply to two residential buildings. It is still unclear what caused the fire.
