Hamas Delays Hostage List Submission; Clashes Over Humanitarian Aid

Hamas has deliberately delayed the submission of the list of hostages set to be released on Saturday, according to sources quoted by Saudi state-owned news outlet Al Arabiya. The list was expected to be handed over to Israel around 4:30 p.m. local time on Friday.

Accusations of Non-Adherence to Agreements

Hamas claims the delay is a response to Israel’s alleged failure to adhere to agreed-upon humanitarian protocols. This includes the entry of mobile homes and tents, provision of necessary equipment for rubble removal, and sufficient fuel supplies to Gaza.

“This would be a violation by Hamas that has no justification,” an Israel official stated to Walla. The Prime Minister’s Office echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that Prime Minister Netanyahu is taking any violation of the agreement very seriously.

Pressure on Mediators

Hamas has called on mediators, particularly Egypt and Qatar, to pressure Israel and ensure the implementation of the humanitarian agreement. According to sources, Hamas cited issues with the medical evacuation of patients and the operation of field hospitals within Gaza.

Hamas reported that only 120 patients managed to leave Gaza for medical treatment, far fewer than the 35,000 patients in critical need of medical care outside the Strip. Meanwhile, the Rafah municipality stated that it lacked 40,000 tents and shelter units and that 40% of patients with kidney problems had died due to the lack of necessary medical treatment.

Discrepancies in Humanitarian Aid Claims

Hamas asserts that only about 10% of the stipulated humanitarian aid has entered Gaza since the hostage deal began. However, these claims conflict with reports from the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), which indicated that over 12,000 trucks carrying humanitarian aid had entered Gaza since the start of the agreement.

Implications and Ongoing Tensions

The delayed release of hostages and ongoing disputes over humanitarian aid underscore the complexities and lingering tensions between Hamas and Israel. These issues continue to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, affecting the lives of thousands of residents.

As negotiations and mediation efforts intensify, the international community watches closely to see if these tensions can be resolved and humanitarian conditions in Gaza can be improved.

The Road Ahead

The delay in submitting the hostage list and conflicting claims over humanitarian aid illustrate the deep-seated challenges in achieving a lasting peace settlement. Continued efforts by mediators will be crucial in addressing these issues and ensuring the safety and welfare of individuals caught in this conflict.
