by Archynetys Health Desk

The Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) announced the launch of the national project “Pwòpte m se sante m” (My Cleanliness, My Health), on December 17, 2025. An initiative which aims to improve hygiene and sanitation conditions in environments particularly exposed to health risks.

Port-au-Prince, December 20, 2025. According to a press release from the ministry, this program primarily targets civil prisons, displaced persons camps and departmental hospitals, identified as potential sources of infections and epidemics such as cholera, scabies or parasitoses.

The program is implemented by the Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Protection (DPSPE). The ministry informs that it is part of a coordinated approach to reducing health risks for the benefit of vulnerable populations.

It also aims to correct precarious hygiene and sanitation conditions in order to reduce the incidence of infectious diseases in targeted environments.

According to the ministry’s press release, the program is based on four specific objectives.

It first provides for intensive sanitation of civil prisons, in order to guarantee conditions that meet hygiene standards.

Then, it sets up regular health support in the camps for major displaced persons in Port-au-Prince, with continuous sanitation services and the installation of a fixed, functional community health post.

The third component concerns the deployment of mobile clinics, intended to offer incarcerated people direct access to care, including regular consultations and screenings.

Finally, the project aims to strengthen hygiene and infection prevention standards in departmental hospitals, through targeted disinfection and sanitation actions.

In a context where the prison population in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince is only increasing in the rare detention centers capable of receiving prisoners, in particular because the two largest prison centers in the country were attacked by the coalition of viv ansanm gangs, which made them dysfunctional, this program could well improve the hygienic conditions around prisoners.
