Modder’s Project Removed Without Warning
Dark Space, the developer behind the fan-made map, reported on X (formerly twitter) that their project trailer was removed from YouTube without prior notification. I expected something like this could happen,
Dark Space stated. I’m surprised they didn’t even bother emailing me. I would have taken it down if asked.
Take Two interactive has copyright claimed and removed my video on the GTA 6 map I made in GTA 5. I expected something like this could happen. I am surprised they didn’t bother emailing me. I would have taken it down if asked.

Accuracy Suspected as reason for Takedown
Dark Space explained that the Map of GTA 6
was constructed using the official trailer released by Rockstar Games, coupled with various leaks. The modder speculates that the takedown request was triggered by the map’s surprising accuracy. Perhaps it was a little too accurate,
they suggested, and that, therefore, the company can consider it a threat.
Speculation on Spoiling the Surprise
The creator theorized that Take-Two Interactive might perceive the playable map as a potential spoiler. They may have felt some kind of threat with their existence, because they feel that having a playable version of the map to drive could ruin the surprise and newness of GTA 6 when he releases
However, Take-Two Interactive has yet to release an official statement regarding the situation.
Take-Two’s History with the Modding Community
Take-Two Interactive has a well-documented history of friction with the modding community, especially those who attempt to recreate elements from previous franchise installments within existing games. while the legal grounds for this particular takedown remain somewhat ambiguous given that GTA 6
is not yet released, the company’s substantial legal resources pose a meaningful challenge for independent creators like Dark Space.
Modder’s Frustration
Expressing frustration, Dark Space questioned the company’s approach: I was building the hype around the game and giving players something to enjoy while waiting for the next Rockstar trailer. When will these companies learn how to stop attacking their own feet?
