Graubünden Traffic Management: Positive Results & Impact

by Archynetys Sports Desk

Following the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, the canton of Graubünden has made a positive assessment of the traffic management measures implemented in the Lower Engadine. He is particularly pleased with the high use of public transport to Livigno and Bormio.

During the entire duration of the Olympic Games, no traffic jams were reported on the access roads, the Graubünden cantonal police announced on Sunday. Even in the southern valleys of Graubünden, especially in Valposchiavo, the additional traffic linked to the Winter Games was limited.

Almost 85% of travelers to Livigno and Bormio used public transport. Shuttles from CarPotal and other partners transported nearly 41,000 people between Zernez or Müstair, in Graubünden, and Livigno in Italy, the police said. The number of travelers was lower than the forecasts communicated by the Italian organizers, i.e. 70% of the expected number.

On the other hand, the park and ride facilities were only moderately used, according to the press release. In total, only 1,192 vehicles were registered, largely by foreign travelers. Number plates from Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria, among others, have been registered.
