January 3rd marked the 100th birthday of the British music producer and arranger Sir George Henry Martin, who died in 2016. George Martin, often dubbed the “fifth Beatle,” not only had a decisive influence on the fortunes of the “Fab Four.” In addition to timeless arrangements – such as the string sextet for the Beatles classic “Eleanor Rigby” – he also contributed congenial orchestral sounds for the “Wings” hit “Live and let die”, produced the LP “Apocalypse” for the Mahavishnu Orchestra and instrumental albums by guitar legend Jeff Beck.
