The Gamers Assembly, now celebrating it’s 25th anniversary, has undergone a remarkable conversion, expanding from a small gymnasium meetup to a sprawling exhibition that attracts gamers and families alike.

Désiré Koussawo, president of the Association Futurolan, the association behind the Gamers Assembly, recalls the early days: At the beginning, it was a gathering of friends… We were targeting 150 players in a gymnasium,there was nothing else. This humble origin belies the scale of the event today.

A Pivotal Shift: Expanding the Audience

The year 2014 marked a turning point for the Gamers Assembly. the relocation to the Poitiers exhibition center proved to be a catalyst for growth, attracting a more diverse audience.

Koussawo noted the change: We realized that there were lots of new audiences coming… Families who came to spend an hour or two, and then left. This influx of casual gamers and families prompted organizers to broaden the event’s appeal.

Beyond Competition: A Focus on Entertainment

Responding to the changing demographics,the Gamers Assembly strategically expanded its offerings to include a wider range of activities. This included public-amiable animations, associative stands, and appearances by popular influencers. This strategic shift reflects a broader trend in the gaming industry, where community engagement and entertainment value are increasingly prioritized alongside competitive play.

According to Koussawo, we are now making a particular effort on everything that is peripheral to competition… It is our trademark, this meeting between the world of competition and the playful and leisure world.

The 25th-anniversary edition of the Gamers Assembly is pulling out all the stops, introducing a host of new features and attractions. the event aims to provide an immersive experience for all attendees, from hardcore gamers to casual visitors.

Koussawo highlighted some of the new additions: We brought animations on the outside forecourt, a huge truck with latest generation games, a giant laser game, and even Tesla vehicle tests. These additions underscore the event’s commitment to innovation and providing a diverse range of entertainment options.

We have four African countries represented this year: Benin, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria. This is an prospect to share our know-how and create links with these countries.
