The producer of the film “Dark Horse“, inspired by the trajectory of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), received R$2 million in public resources through three CNPJs in the area of technology and sports, in addition to having signed a contract worth R$108 million for the installation of Wi-Fi points with the City of São Paulo.
The information was first released by The Intercept Brasil portal and confirmed by Sheet.
One of the people involved in the production is deputy Mario Frias (PL-SP), former special secretary of Culture in the Bolsonaro government. The report had access to the film’s script, which contains the information that it is based “on a real story written by Mario Frias entitled ‘Capitão do Povo'”.
Frias was responsible for approving two parliamentary amendment funds to Instituto conhecimento Brasil (ICB), an NGO owned by Karina Ferreira da Gama, who also owns GoUP Entertainment, which produces “Dark Horse”.
When contacted, Mario Frias and the Instituto conhecimento Brasil did not respond until the publication of this text.
The parliamentary amendment transfers totaled R$2 million in total. Last year, the Instituto Saber Brasil received R$1 million via the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in a digital literacy action. Via the Ministry of Sports, the ICB was hired for R$1 million to implement the Fighting for Life Project, a martial arts project.
In the past, the institution was authorized to raise funds to carry out projects linked to the evangelical world, such as “A Turma do Smilinguido no Teatro” and an itinerant Marcha para Jesus festival, but was unable to raise funds in both cases.
But the contract with the most significant values was with the management of Ricardo Nunes (MDB) at the city hall of the capital of São Paulo. The institution was contracted by the city hall to install 5,000 Wi-Fi points worth R$108 million.
When contacted, the Municipal Secretariat of Innovation and Technology states that the hiring of the Instituto Saber Brasil was carried out “through a transparent and uncontested public call”.
According to the city hall, “the social organization complied with all the requirements set out in the notice, and the provision of the service is in progress with 3,200 Wi-Fi points implemented and 1,800 points planned for 2026”.
The total value of the partnership is R$108 million, but the transfers made to date are approximately R$86 million, which correspond to the services already performed.
The film “Azarão”, or “Dark Horse” in the original title, narrates the former president’s moments after being the victim of a stabbing in Juiz de Fora, in Minas Gerais, in 2018. The first filming location was at Indianópolis Hospital, in the south zone of the capital of São Paulo.
The film is directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh, an American filmmaker of Iranian origin. He has films such as “Infidel”, “The Young Messiah” and “The Stoning of Soraya M.”, according to the Internet Movie Database. Jair Bolsonaro will be played by Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in Mel Gibson’s film “The Passion of the Christ”, and also starred in “Som da Liberdade”, a hit among conversational audiences in 2023.
