Flyleaf Books Chronicles Its Successful Puzzles and Pumpkins Party

Flyleaf Books recently celebrated its first Puzzles and Pumpkins Party, delighting the community with a weekend of Halloween festivities. Nestled on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, the bookstore’s charming atmosphere, complemented by colorful foliage, created a perfect setting for the event.

A scent-filled celebration

The aroma of hot cider and fresh book pages filled the air, attracting community members eager to participate in the day’s activities. Flyleaf manages to transform a usual October afternoon into a memorable spooktacular celebration.

From hot apple cider to various games and puzzles, the store offered a full range of Halloween treats to its visitors. The event was organized by Jamie Kay, the children’s lead bookseller at Flyleaf, who led customers and staff through a successful scavenger hunt.

A fun-filled scavenger hunt

Kay shared that this was the first time Flyleaf organized a scavenger hunt, and it proved to be a lot of fun for everyone involved. The hunt included 15 various tasks requiring customers to explore store grounds, find book titles, fall imagery, solve riddles, and locate hidden pumpkins.

“It’s a thrill to see the kids pouring over clues and riddles as they complete the hunt!” mentioned Talia Smart, the store manager. Community members disguised as witches and black cats added a festive touch to the event. All participants in costumes received a $3 store coupon as a reward for their Halloween spirit.

Enjoying the Puzzle Swap

In addition to the scavenger hunt, the event featured a "puzzle swap" where customers could bring in their own puzzles and board games. The selection brought in by the community created a unique experience that engrossed visitors in friendly exchanges of games throughout the day.

A customer, Kim Kuecker, shared, "We’re currently working on a scavenger hunt, and it’s a little more complicated than we imagined but we’re still having a lot of fun!"

Ready for next year’s celebration

The success of the first Puzzles and Pumpkins Party at Flyleaf Books sets the stage for even bigger and better events moving forward. Rachel Johnson, who runs the local community blog, suggested, "Next year, we can’t wait to see what creative surprises Jamie and the rest of the Flyleaf team come up with."

Visitors and locals alike unwound with hot apple cider and friendly competition during the scavenger hunt and puzzle swap. This first Halloween celebration at Flyleaf Books has become a memorable event that reflects the store’s commitment to community engagement and unique experiences.
