Catanzaro – The Dulbecco University Hospital of Catanzaro has ordered the blocking of ordinary hospitalizations to overcome the emergency phase due to the considerable increase in access to the emergency room for cases of flu. The hospital is currently experiencing particular healthcare pressure linked to the rapid increase in influenza diseases. According to hospital sources, cases of pneumonia requiring hospitalization are increasing by 30%. The company had already previously decided to block hospitalizations in the period from 23 December to 6 January, which was further extended yesterday for a week in order to decongest the first emergency area and the departments. The measure has been extended until January 13, limited to medical departments. Ordinary hospitalizations in the surgical area have resumed regularly. The departments that are currently recording high hospitalization rates are Medicine, Geriatrics and Infectious Diseases. These are mostly frail patients, those with comorbidities and elderly people who present a clinical picture aggravated by pneumonia.
