Fleur de Lis Pizza to Reopen Under New Ownership in Baton Rouge

A Government Street landmark is making a comeback.
BATON ROUGE – Fleur de Lis Pizza, a Government Street institution since 1946, is poised for a revival. The property was recently acquired for $1.1 million, and the new owners are committed to relaunching the business as a “new and improved Fleur de Lis Pizza.”
Big Horn River LLC finalized the purchase of the Government Street location, near jefferson Highway, on May 21. According to Carl Batson, a representative for Big Horn River, the revamped pizzeria is slated to open by late fall, retaining its original décor while incorporating a remodeled layout that includes a balcony.
Batson indicated that the reimagined Fleur de Lis will honor its roots as a speakeasy, utilizing past tax credits and a design conceived by architecture firm TIEK BYDAY.
“The exterior will look just like it did in 1946,” Batson stated.”It’ll be the same ole Fleur de Lis Pizza.”
batson emphasized his dedication to preserving the legacy of the renowned pizza establishment, which has garnered national recognition.He recounted a conversation wiht a former patron and LSU alumnus residing in California,who fondly recalled Fleur de Lis’ Roman pizza pie.
The pizza restaurant, celebrated for its dean Martin jukebox selections and its steadfast cash-only policy, ceased operations in July 2022.
At the time of its closure, previous management cited staffing shortages as the primary reason. The former owners initially listed the business for sale at $4.5 million, a figure exceeding four times the amount paid by Big Horn River.
