Fake Physiotherapist: Abuse of Trust Case in Oiã

by Archynetys News Desk

A man pretending to be an osteopath and physiotherapist was arrested by the GNR in the town of Oiã, in the municipality of Oliveira do Bairro, and accused of usurpation of functions. The 53-year-old man does not have legal qualifications to perform these functions, but used his residence as a practice. At the location, GNR soldiers found advertising material and even medical examinations of alleged clients.

The case was triggered following a complaint about breach of trust. A person who “had a relationship with the suspect” approached the police and filed a complaint because he wanted to collect belongings from the house, as well as “amounts of money that allegedly belonged to him and had disappeared”, said the Commander of the Anadia Territorial Detachment, Major José Magalhães.

Once there, after investigations, the GNR soldiers discovered that the suspect used the residence as a practice to carry out osteopathy and physiotherapy consultations. “The man himself ended up admitting to the military that he was carrying out the activity without being qualified to do so”, specified the commander.

A home search carried out subsequently culminated in the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of various material related to the practice of the crime, namely several advertising leaflets, medical examinations belonging to alleged clients and appointment books, the GNR said in a statement.

The case happened last Thursday and the suspect provided an identity and residence statement, having been notified to appear at the Oliveira do Bairro Judicial Court. The investigation will now continue.
