Meta Platforms is overhauling Facebook to keep the world’s largest social network attractive. The redesign is intended to “make it easier to create, discover and share Facebook content,” according to the company. The changes also affect the app’s navigation and search to make it easier to find certain content. Without mentioning the other social media platform from our own company, Facebook is becoming more and more reminiscent of Instagram.

Meta Platforms had already revised the design of the social network in March of this year. A separate friend feed with no suggestions allowed Facebook to be used like old times – without suggestions and AI spam. Mark Zuckerberg himself compared the new feed to 2006. Meta announces that this is just one of several steps this year to “bring back the joy we once created with Facebook”. The group is now continuing this.
Facebook redesign is partly reminiscent of Instagram
Multiple images are now published in a standardized grid and a double click (or double tap) generates a like. In addition, the most frequently used functions according to Facebook are prominently displayed in the top navigation bar: Reels, Friends, Marketplace and Profile. This is intended to simplify and speed up access. Search results are now also displayed in a grid layout that supports all post types. At the same time, Facebook is testing a full-screen view of search results with images and videos. This is very reminiscent of Instagram.

The feed, which is controlled by the Facebook algorithm, should now be able to be better adapted to your own preferences. Users can now justify why they are hiding certain posts or reels. This is intended to better adapt the content of the automatically created feed to the users. Facebook promises more options for customizing the feed in the next few months.
Reveal more data for better tips
The creation of stories and posts has also been redesigned. It should now be more intuitive to add music and tag friends. The comment function has also been simplified, both in the normal feed and in groups and Reels. According to Facebook, group moderators will have new and expanded control options over content and conversations, and everyone should be able to report irrelevant comments anonymously.

Your own Facebook profile should make it easier to find other people with the same hobbies. If a user reveals interests and travel plans in their profile, Facebook will then show them friends with similar interests or give them relevant travel tips. According to the company, this is “just the beginning of making Facebook clearer and more user-friendly”. Further updates are promised for 2026.
