The Dutch government is set to dispatch its final F-16 fighter jet to Ukraine tomorrow, completing its commitment to provide a total of 24 aircraft. This announcement was made by Minister Brekelmans of Defense during a television appearance on WNL on Sunday. He stated, “That means that the 24 devices we have promised will be operational there.”
Deliveries of the combat aircraft began last summer, with subsequent installments arriving earlier this year.
Minister Brekelmans affirmed that the Netherlands will continue its support for Ukraine. “We recently announced a large support package that also contains anti -aircraft weather.” he also noted the ongoing training programs for Ukrainian personnel in the operation of the F-16s.
These F-16s are intended to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses, protecting cities from Russian drones and missiles. other nations, including Belgium, Denmark, and Norway, have also contributed combat aircraft to Ukraine.
Pressure on Russia
Minister Brekelmans commented on the lack of willingness from Russian President PUTIN to engage in serious ceasefire negotiations. “And that means that we will have to increase the pressure, put pressure on Russia and at the same time support Ukraine, so that PUTIN also feels more the need to actually talk about peace.”
He emphasized the critical role of US support in influencing the situation. According to Brekelmans, a substantial American sanctions package is prepared, which could shift the dynamics if implemented. He believes that American pressure is essential to bring the involved parties to the negotiating table, adding, “If it continues on this road, it doesn’t look good.”
Recent days have seen renewed intense russian air strikes on Ukrainian territory, occurring at night even as prisoner exchanges took place during the day.
“That means that the 24 devices we have promised will be operational there.”
