Alcohol deteriorates the liver and the brain, drugs practically all our organs at a physiological level and then there are certain foods, such as industrial sugar or ultra-processed foods that, if we abuse their consumption on a regular basis, literally crush our brain and almost irreversibly. Eating poorly, drinking or leading a sedentary life leaves permanent scars on the body and organism.
In this sense, the prestigious neuroscientist Lisa Mosconi, from Harvard Medical School, has warned about 5 foods that, if consumed daily and without control, deteriorate the brain and cognitive functions in general. He told it in an interview for the newspaper La Razón in 2024.
“There are 5 evil foods that deteriorate the brain, memory and other cognitive functions”
First of all, ultra-processed foods, from chips to ice cream to junk fast food, contain a lot of trans fats and sugar. Secondly, consuming a lot of sugar impairs memory and creates a lot of dependency on the brain. Without forgetting all the foods we fry, and on top of that with bad oil, and if they are the typical potatoes from fast food establishments, it is better not to talk… They affect, for example, blood flow to the brain.
First and foremost, regular alcohol consumption damages neurons and affects almost all cognitive functions. Alzheimer’s, cancer, dementia… alcohol and its ethanol are often behind it. And then, finally, there are all the industrial sweeteners, flavorings and preservatives, which are another enemy of the brain. “The health of the brain is the health of your body,” says neuroscientist Lisa Mosconi. So take care of it, it’s advice and free.

One of my hobbies is shopping for food because I love eating, especially meat, but also fruit and healthy desserts. I don’t miss my daily protein shake and to recommend, try the peanut butter with banana, this is one of many of the recommendations that you can find among the nutrition content in which I write and discuss topics such as creatine, whey protein among others.
