EU Ukraine Aid: Summit Reaches Preliminary Deal

by Archynetys Economy Desk

Brussels: At their summit, the EU countries in principle promised Ukraine further financial aid until 2027. However, the design is still unclear. No decision has yet been made on the plan to use frozen Russian state assets for a 140 billion euro loan. This will be discussed again at the EU summit in December. It is planned that Ukraine will pay back the money – but only after Russia has paid reparations to Ukraine after the end of the war. EU Commission President von der Leyen spoke of a complex issue. Chancellor Merz appeared satisfied after the discussions. It is crucial that Ukraine has the promise that the EU will finance it in the next two years. This is also a signal to Putin that continuing his war of aggression is pointless, said Merz.
