Bjoern Seibert, Ursula von der Leyen‘s chief of staff, also had a seat at the negotiating table during the negotiations on the peace agreement in Ukraine, Politico has learned. According to the EU official speaking to the Brussels portal, in addition to the American, Russian and Ukrainian parties, the representatives of France and Germany will also participate in the meeting planned for Sunday, to be held in Switzerland based on Kiev’s announcement.

At the current meeting, the parties are represented at the level of national security advisors. The EU is expected to express its opposition to the conditions listed by Donald Trump, the union primarily complains that Ukraine should hand over territories to the Russians. EU leaders joined the joint statement issued at the current G20 meeting. Meanwhile, in a letter written to the President of the European Commission, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán called on the EU to sign the 28-point American proposal and to start negotiations with the Russians.

Peace the Orbán way: Trianon for the Ukrainians

If the peace plan currently on the table ends the Russian-Ukrainian war, then the European powers and Ukraine will suffer a strategic defeat. On the other hand, Viktor Orbán, who insults the attacked Ukraine in every way, can see his policy up to now as justified. Of course, the big question is whether the leaked plan would be the final solution to ending the war that has been going on for almost four years, or whether there is a more favorable scenario for the Ukrainians in the hands of the Trumps.
