Esplanada Explosion: Injuries & Evaluations – Latest Updates

Three workers were hospitalized, one of them with 60% of his body burned, after an explosion at Esplanada dos Ministérios, this Tuesday morning (25/11). The victims carried out maintenance at the energy substation that supplies the building that houses the Ministries of Racial Equality and Agriculture and Livestock.

The entire building had to be evacuated by the fire brigade. Meanwhile, soldiers from the Fire Department attended to the workers who were victims of the explosion and also employees from the ministries who inhaled a lot of smoke.

Until 11:40 am, the casualty count was:

– Two workers with burns, one of them in serious condition, taken to the Asa Norte Regional Hospital (Hran);

– A worker who went down to help his friends was taken to Hran with smoke poisoning;

– 27 workers from ministries treated by firefighters with smoke inhalation poisoning;

– Three ministry workers taken to the hospital (firefighters did not say which one)

CEB IPes informs that the control panel responsible for activating the lighting of the Esplanada dos Ministérios is located inside the substation shared with the energy distributor. This Tuesday, during maintenance work, an accident occurred involving an outsourced employee, who was wearing a flame-retardant uniform and all recommended PPE. He received immediate care from the Fire Department and was taken to the hospital.
