End of Year Festivities: What’s Not Allowed

As part of the prevention of risks of disturbance to public security, tranquility and health, the prefect of Meuse has issued a prefectural decree. From December 23, 2025 at 5 p.m. to January 4, 2026 at 8 a.m., the acquisition, transfer, sale or use of fireworks categories F1 to F4, pyrotechnic articles of categories T2 and P2 as well as any device for launching these products on the road and public spaces or towards the road and public spaces and in other places of large gatherings, in particular sports arenas are prohibited throughout the department.

During this period, port and transport by individuals of categories F1 to F4 and pyrotechnic articles of categories T2 and P2 as well as any device for launching these products, in particular the use of mortar, are prohibited.

However, the following are authorized, during this period, for persons holding the F4-T2 qualification certificate:

  • the sale of fireworks and pyrotechnic articles;
  • the use of fireworks as part of pyrotechnic shows.

Other prohibitions

The distribution, sale, purchase and transportation of fuels and combustibles in any transportable container, unless duly justified by the customer to the distributor with, where necessary, the assistance of local police forces, are prohibited throughout the Meuse department.

Distribution, sale, purchase and transport of paint packaged in aerosols are prohibited throughout the Meuse department.

The ban provided for in this article is not, however, enforceable against declared professionals in the painting professions.

Transport without legitimate reason combustible materials (beams, straw, wood, etc.) and construction materials is prohibited throughout the Meuse department.

Transporting and carrying objects which may constitute a weapon within the meaning of article 132-75 of the Penal Code are, except for legitimate reasons, prohibited throughout the Meuse department.

Consumption of alcoholic beverages from the third to the fifth group within the meaning of article L3321-1 of the Public Health Code, with the exception of the perimeters of legally authorized drinking establishments is prohibited on the entire public highway in the public domain of the State or local authorities of the Meuse department.
