Elon Musk Slams Donald Trump’s Economic Plan as an “Abomination“
The Tesla CEO criticizes the ‘One big Lovely Bill,’ while the White House defends its economic impact.
The relationship between Elon Musk and Donald trump has soured, with Musk publicly denouncing Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” as an “abomination.” Musk claims the bill negates the cost-cutting efforts of his former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).The White House has retaliated, dismissing Musk’s critique as a “hoax” and asserting the bill will slash the deficit by $6.6 trillion over the next decade through tariffs, spending cuts, and deregulation, while simultaneously fueling unprecedented economic expansion.
Speculation surrounded the Musk-Trump alliance from its inception, with many questioning its longevity and potential breaking points.
Now, just four months into their partnership, the catalyst for their division has emerged: Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” has been labeled an “abomination” by the Tesla CEO.
Musk escalated his opposition to the fiscal centerpiece of Trump 2.0, sharing a Kill Bill poster on his X timeline, branding the bill the “Debt Slavery Bill.”
Musk’s political involvement began with financial support for then-Republican nominee Trump, culminating in his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Washington D.C.
Though, Trump 2.0’s primary spending bill, promising the “largest tax cuts in history,” has been criticized by Musk for allegedly undoing the efficiency gains achieved by his DOGE team.
The Trump administration projects the bill will boost GDP by 2.6% to 3.2% in the long term and increase take-home pay for median-income households by $5,000 annually. However, earlier Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projections indicated the legislation would add $3.8 trillion to the deficit, while proposed medicaid cuts would onyl reduce spending by $1 trillion.
DOGE, initially tasked with cutting $2 trillion from the public deficit before the target was lowered, cost Musk billions in personal wealth and reputational damage to Tesla due to its ties to the trump administration.
Musk has emphasized this point, stating on social media that the bill “more than defeats all the cost savings achieved by the @DOGE team at great personal cost and risk.”
Other sources suggest Musk’s increased attacks stem from the withdrawal of Jared Isaacman’s nomination to lead NASA by Trump.
The president stated isaacman, a close Musk associate, was removed from consideration “after a thorough review of prior associations.”
Isaacman, former head of Shift4,claimed his nomination was retracted shortly after musk departed Washington D.C., adding: “I don’t want to play dumb on this. I don’t think the timing was much of a coincidence.”
Citing anonymous sources, the Wall Street Journal reported musk was “infuriated” by the decision, making him more inclined to publicly criticize Trump.

Unusual silence from Trump
“The bill more than defeats all the cost savings achieved by the @DOGE team at great personal cost and risk.”
It is indeed unusual for the president to face such public criticism without a response.
Rather, the white House is employing a tactic previously used by Musk: dismissing the claims as a “hoax.”
In a rebuttal released by the Oval Office, the Trump administration refuted claims that “The One Big Beautiful Bill increases spending” and “The One Big Beautiful Bill adds to the deficit.”
The article, framed as a “mythbuster,” presents several “facts,” including: “Upon enactment the bill-and through increased tariffs revenues, discretionary spending cuts, and reversing Biden-era regulations-the Trump Administration will have taken actions that reduce deficits by at least $6.6 trillion over the next decade.”
As a notable example, the White House cites CBO projections that tariffs will shrink the economy but also reduce federal deficits by $2.8 trillion (the inclusion of the One Big Beautiful Bill in its modeling is not mentioned).
It adds: “By every honest metric, President Donald J. Trump’s one Big Beautiful Bill dramatically improves the fiscal trajectory of the United States and unleashes an era of unprecedented economic growth.”
The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment.
House speaker Mike Johnson also commented that President Trump is “not delighted that Elon did a 180” and added the SpaceX founder is “flat wrong.”
While President Trump presented Musk with a ceremonial “key the White House” during a departure ceremony last week, the Tesla CEO may discover the Oval Office has already changed the locks.
