Resignation due to health reasons

Chairman of Ogre County Council Egils Helmanis (National Union) has announced his resignation. The decision was made public in a video format on his social media Facebook account on Tuesday, February 3. As Latvian Public Media informs, the reason for the resignation is acute health problems, which forced Helmanis to leave his position after less than nine years in charge. Despite previous health problems and absence, Helmanis resumed his work on January 29, but has now made the decision to completely abandon the duties of chairman.

Despite resigning from the position of council chairman, Egils Helmanis will continue working in the Ogre county council in a new position. Deputies have elected him as the chairman of the Development and Infrastructure Committee. In this position, Helmanis’ salary is planned to be 2,500 euros per month. He himself has expressed his commitment to chair the committee, citing his relevant experience.
Changes in the municipality
Andris Krauja has become the new chairman of Ogre County Council. His election took place at an extraordinary meeting of the city council, which was called after Helmanis’ resignation. The municipality of Ogre region calls for compliance with ethical principles and not to spread misinformation about Helmanis’ health, referring to the opinion of the Health Inspectorate on the validity of the work incapacity sheet.
