DTB Cup Stuttgart:
Gymnastics metropolis is ready for the 41st edition
This year, 24 nations with more than 500 delegation members are taking part in the DTB Pokal Stuttgart (March 19th to 22nd). Including 14 Olympians. Before the gymnastics highlight in the Porsche Arena, the organizing Swabian Gymnastics Association (STB) was pleased with the international response and the status of the preparations.
STB President Marcus Frank is pleased: “The audience response is once again high: Saturday evening is almost sold out, and the school action day with around 5,000 students on Friday morning is also completely full. This clearly shows that gymnastics inspires enthusiasm – and Stuttgart provides ideal conditions for this.”
The spectators in the Porsche Arena will once again be treated to world-class sports: a total of 14 Olympians will be coming to Stuttgart. Stuttgart is now also known for the fact that you can admire many of tomorrow’s gymnastics stars there. Quite a few later international medal winners once celebrated their first major appearance in the Porsche Arena.
International competition will certainly not make things easy for the Germans. The mixed team European champions, among others, represent the German gymnastics team Karina Schönmaier and Timo Eder at the start. Schönmaier is looking forward to “the special backdrop”. “The atmosphere in the Porsche Arena is incredibly good.” Regarding the sporting expectations, she said: “I want to convince with a stable all-around competition.”
The Stuttgart local hero Do Eder feels fit for the home competition: “The training camp was intensive, but extremely valuable. Now being back in Stuttgart and doing gymnastics on my doorstep gives me additional energy.” From his point of view, Eder’s role in the team has not changed much in recent years, despite the successes: “I think my role in the team hasn’t changed much since my European Championship gold medal. I’m still the youngest. In addition, the others have more international experience in the senior level. I think it’s nice that I’m back in the team every time.” His goal for Stuttgart: “I want to show a stable competition – and let the atmosphere carry me.”
“Team Swabia” is well represented at this year’s DTB Pokal Stuttgart. A total of seven gymnasts will be competing, training just a few meters away in the Stuttgart Artistic Gymnastics Forum of the Swabian Gymnastics Association.
The two German national coaches are optimistic about the four days of competition with seven competitions in Stuttgart. Women’s national coach Gerben Wiersma This year, we are also supporting seniors and juniors in parallel: “These are intensive days, but we are well prepared. The mood in the team is very positive. The young athletes are really looking forward to the international comparison – such experiences are worth their weight in gold for our athletes.”
DTB men’s head coach Jens Milbradt came to Stuttgart with his team straight from the training camp in Kienbaum: “The boys are absolutely ready. We deliberately made the nomination late in order to take current performance levels into account.” And further: “We want to appear confident here and face the strong international comparison. The Swabian athletes traditionally have a tailwind here in Stuttgart – you can clearly feel that in training.”
All competitions will be broadcast live www.dtbpokal.de/live transmitted.
