Two distinguished professors and researchers from the Bolívar nucleus have earned places among the world’s top scientists, according to the prestigious AD Scientific Index 2025. this recognition underscores the growing impact of Venezuelan research on the global stage.

Dr. Yurilis Fuentes: A leader in Rheumatology Research

For the second consecutive year, Dr. Yurilis Fuentes Silva, a professor and researcher at the University of the East, Bolívar nucleus, has been recognized for her outstanding contributions. The AD Scientific Index 2025 places her among the elite international scientists.

Notably, Dr. Fuentes is ranked number one in rheumatology within both the University of the East and across Venezuela. Her work focuses on rheumatic diseases, including lupus, a chronic autoimmune condition affecting millions worldwide. According to the Lupus Foundation of America,an estimated 1.5 million Americans, and at least five million people worldwide, have a form of lupus.

The AD Scientific Index emphasizes the impact of published scientific research, evaluating scientists based on the frequency with which their work is cited by other researchers. Dr. Fuentes’ high citation rate confirms the global significance and influence of her research in the field of rheumatology.

dr. Rodolfo Devera: Excellence in Parasitology

Joining Dr. Fuentes in this year’s ranking is Dr. Rodolfo Devera, who has achieved the top position in parasitology, both nationally and internationally.His work contributes substantially to understanding and combating parasitic diseases, which remain a major public health challenge in many parts of the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that parasitic diseases affect billions of people globally, particularly in developing countries.
