Dino Crisis Revival: Capcom’s Attempts Revealed

In recent years, Resident Evil has made a comeback with a high-budget, high-quality remake, winning the favor of long-term fans and new audiences – the most recent one was the well-received Resident Evil 4 remake. But Capcom’s horror legacy did not end with the zombies. In the late 1990s, Shinji Mikami also created Dino Crisis, a survival horror series with prehistoric teeth that has since become a cult status. Fans have been calling for a revival with the same cautious, modern style as Resident Evil.

However, trusted insider Dusk Golem recently shared some less encouraging news. Although famous for leaks from Resident Evil Requiem, he also revealed details about the behind-the-scenes history of Dino Crisis:

“I hope Capcom will eventually figure out what they want to do with Dino Crisis. For the sake of the statement – I don’t think it’s new information – there have been several attempts to remake Dino Crisis in the past decade. The first one was made by Capcom Vancouver before they shut down (actually, there was still some leaked material on my hard drive). The second attempt was a few years ago, but it didn’t turn out well, so it was abandoned. I hope they’ll figure out how they want to advance Dino Crisis and eventually go through the prototype phase.

If the leak is true, Capcom has tried to inject new vitality into the series at least twice, but both projects collapsed before they were finished. One of them is in the hands of the now-disbanded Capcom Vancouver, while the other is reportedly dead at the early design stage. Interestingly, new Dino Crisis merchandise has also recently emerged, which has sparked speculation that Capcom has not forgotten Regina and her dinosaur-stalking adventure. Whether this hints about future plans, or just nostalgic marketing, is not yet clear.

Do you want to see the brand new Dino Crisis — or is it enough to be a faithful remake?
