Los Angeles (dpa) – US actress Diane Ladd, who was nominated for an Oscar three times, is dead. Her daughter, Oscar winner Laura Dern, announced her mother’s death. Her “great heroine” died today in her home in Ojai, California, wrote Dern (58) in a statement that was available to the “Hollywood Reporter” and other US media. Dern praised Ladd as “the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and compassionate spirit.” Ladd was 89 years old.
Ladd and Dern, who appeared together in the film “The Lust of the Beautiful Rose” (1991), both earned Oscar nominations. Before
They also played in David Lynch’s “Wild at Heart – The Story of
Sailor and Lula” (1990) side by side. Ladd also received an Oscar nomination for this supporting role. Ladd first became eligible for Hollywood’s highest prize at the beginning of her film career with a supporting role in the film drama “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” (1974) directed by Martin Scorsese.
Hollywood star for the Dern family
Laura Dern came from Ladd’s marriage to actor Bruce Dern (89), which ended in divorce in 1969. In 2010, the Dern family was immortalized with three star plaques on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Bruce Dern shone in films such as “The Great Gatsby” (1974), “Coming Home” (1978) and “Nebraska” (2013). Laura Dern won an Oscar for her supporting role in the marital drama “Marriage Story” (2020).
