Congressman Carlos Giménez, who was a firefighter and mayor of Miami-Dade County, also issued a statement.

Both candidates for mayor of Miami, Eileen Higgins and Emilio Gonzálezalso referred to the unfortunate event on their social networks.
“I am saddened to learn of the death of a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputy who was shot this afternoon. I pray for the deputy, his family and for every officer who serves our community with bravery and dedication. Moments like this remind us of the true sacrifices those who protect us make every day,” Higgins said.
“It pains me deeply to learn that a Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed in the line of duty today. Deputy Jaramillo put on the uniform to protect our community and paid with his life. My prayers are with his family, his loved ones, and all the deputies who mourn tonight. Miami must always stand with the men and women who risk everything to keep us safe,” Gonzalez said.
Devin Jaramillo’s career
Officer Devin Jaramillo He was part of the Coral Gables police force for almost four yearsbefore joining the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, and during that time he was honored as Officer of the Month, July 2023.
Devin Jaramillo graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. His father, David Jaramillo, is a retired Miami-Dade detective and was president of the Hispanic police association.
