Ten people were washed out to sea in the coastal town of Puerto de la Cruz, which was hardest hit by the powerful waves, says the regional board’s press department.
A woman died there of cardiac arrest. The other nine – including three French tourists – were taken to hospital, some of them with serious injuries, writes NTB.
AFP writes that also about two other deaths linked to large waves on Saturday. A warning was issued for large waves on Saturday, Canarijournalen writes. Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands.
