It feels dense, solid and terribly premium.

We couldn’t talk about a Nothing without mentioning its lights. The Glyph Matrix on this Phone (4a) Pro has been redesigned to be more visually “coherent”. Under the hood we find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. It is a smart chip choice: built in 4 nanometers, it seeks the balance between power and efficiency. In terms of raw performance, we are looking at a processor that is similar to what a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 offered four years ago, but with much more modern energy management and a GPU.

How does this translate into everyday life? For 95% of users, the phone performs well enough to not even question what processor is inside. Opening applications is instantaneous and I have been able to edit 4K clips in Edits or process RAW photos in Adobe Lightroom with surprising agility.

The problem comes when you ask for the maximum. It is not a processor designed for the most demanding games at Ultra settings, nor for constant heavy rendering tasks. This is where you notice that you don’t have a Phone (3) or an iPhone 17e in your hands. He resents if you demand from him like a high-end guy, but for real life, he has plenty of muscle.

Battery and charging: iron autonomy, mandatory cables

The good thing about having an efficient processor and a 5,080 mAh battery is that you forget about the plugs all day long. In my tests, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro has replicated the results I obtained in its day with the Pixel 10a: about 7 hours of screen on without too much effort. The AI integration through the Essential button is seamless and really useful to save content in a place that you can later access and see how artificial intelligence has classified it for you. The only catch? That Nothing only guarantees 3 years of operating system updates. In a world where Samsung and Google already offer 7 years even in their mid-ranges, Nothing’s 3 years seem scarce for hardware that is designed to last much longer.

Cameras: powerful lights, nuanced shadows

Nothing wanted to provide the (4a) Pro with a camera system that does not seem mid-range. And to a large extent, he has achieved it.

The sensor Sony LYT-700C de 50 MP does a fantastic job capturing detail. The photos are sharp, with processing that respects reality and avoids artificial saturation.

What I liked the most is the 3.5x telephoto lens. It is rare to see such a long optical focal length in this price range, and the results in portraits are superb, with a natural blur and a sharpness that does not drop when magnified.

Not everything is perfect. While blacks are deep, highlights (a bright sky, a direct spotlight) sometimes run wild and appear blown.
