Defender Group has presented a new strategic approach to plant nutrition with the aim of strengthening and promoting its growth by incorporating products and services with high technical differentiation, reinforcing its international presence and expanding its catalog.
This change in strategy comes from the hand of a new management team that responds to the needs of expanding the business and the brand internationally, while adapting to new work models, to the improvement of processes and procedures, typical of a multinational entity.
Under the concept of intelligent nutrition, and in line with the fundamental values that define defend – sustainability, innovation and circular economy – as the company’s CEO has advanced, Pablo Montañés, will be able to differentiate themselves thanks to their other line of business, animal nutrition, with which they have access to the entire animal flour supply chain.
The company has developed a catalog of “differentiated and competitive bio -stimulants based on the circular economy” with which they can dissecting sales by increasing profitability and achieving expansion to new markets. His commitment to the development of advanced solutions, backed by own technology such as Powerdef®, seeks to improve soil health and optimize crop nutrition.
“From the origin of the raw material to the supply of the product, we have absolute control over the entire value chain,” says Montañés, who points out that the company’s objective is “to seek differentiation in efficient products in the field and sustainable from an economic point of view.” Currently, the company has a turnover of 50 million euros and the objective is to double these figures “in the next five years.”
Production increase
Defer has four production plants: three in Spain (Monzón, Albalate de Cinca and Albelda) and one in Alveringem (Belgium), from where it serves the European and international market.
As part of the new plant nutrition strategy, the company will make an investment of more than two million euros in Belgium to dismantle the facilities and create a new plant, which will allow it to quadruple its production capacity per year of fertilizers in pellets.
In its Albalate del Cinca (Huesca) plant they will carry out an investment of one million euros to increase its production capacity and that can operate in continuous cycle, with the new creation of three jobs for the night shift.

International expansion and forecasts
In plant nutrition, defending is present in equal parts between the national market and export, concentrated mostly in France (almost 90%), a market where they want to continue consolidating their presence.
With his new strategy, defend has taken another step in his growth and expansion career to other markets and is reinforcing his presence in Morocco, Algeria and Thailand. In bioestimulants, they will be more focused on more developing markets such as Southeast Asia (including China), Latin America and the countries of the Ribera del Mediterraneano, “where we can value our experience,” they highlight.
