Davao City Library and Information Center Mobilizes Book Knowledge in 2024

The Davao City Library and Information Center (DCLIC) Mobile Library has embarked on an ambitious mission to bring educational and community services to 141 locations across Davao City in 2024. This initiative encompasses public and private schools, daycare centers, city jails, and community services like the Lingap Center and homes for the elderly.

Comprehensive Reach and Services

Out of the 141 visits, 88 were to public schools, 38 to daycare centers, and nine to private schools. The mobile unit also conducted six special visits to city jails and other community areas. DCLIC Bookmobile and Disaster Education Head, Arniel Enoc, shared these figures during the ISpeak Media Forum on February 6, 2025, at the City Mayor’s Office.

The mobile library offers a range of educational services. Time is dedicated to storytelling and book readings, which are accompanied by a mascot and puppet shows. Disaster preparedness and orientation are prioritized for students in grades five to six and high school. They also provide basic first aid training. According to Enoc, these services are aimed at enriching the educational experience and preparing community members for emergencies.

Continued Expansion and Future Plans

The reach of the mobile library has already extended beyond the end of 2024 and into 2025. By the beginning of January, DCLIC had already served around 15 schools and anticipates serving more throughout the year. This proactive approach ensures continuous engagement with the community, providing ongoing educational support.

The mobile library follows a structured schedule, visiting public schools and barangays from Monday to Thursday. Fridays are reserved for special visits to private schools, Lingap Centers, and homes for the elderly. This schedule ensures a balanced approach to serving different segments of the community.

How to Get Involved

Public schools interested in coordinating visits with the mobile library should contact the Department of Education (DepEd). For private schools and other community centers, Enoc advises sending a letter expressing their interest and emailing it to dcl@davaocity.gov.ph. This straightforward process makes it easy for all interested parties to participate in the educational enrichments provided by the DCLIC.

Current Mobile Library Units

DCLIC operates three mobile libraries, each designed to cater to different age groups and educational needs:

  • The Disaster Education mobile serves elementary and high school students.
  • The Green Bus targets students from grades three to six.
  • The Blue Bus is specifically designed for nursery children.

Bringing Books to Life

The efforts of the DCLIC Mobile Library exemplify a commitment to education and community well-being. Through their programs, they are not only providing access to literature but also teaching essential life skills and fostering a love for learning among Davao City’s youth and residents.

As the library continues to expand its services, it serves as a beacon of knowledge and community engagement. The upcoming months are set to see further growth and impact, solidifying DCLIC’s role as a vital educational resource for Davao City.
