New show in Daugavpils theater

On March 14, the Daugavpils theater will host the premiere of a new sentimental comedy called Once in the blue light of the full moon. As Diena newspaper reports, the show is staged by the experienced director Herberts Laukštein, who previously managed the Liepāja theater for many years and made his debut at the Daugavpils theater last year with the successful play “Next year at the same time”.
A story about family ties and loneliness
The show will focus on topical themes such as family ties, love and dealing with loneliness, especially in old age. The plot follows two grown children, Scott and Amy, who go to visit their father, anticipating that he might be feeling lonely. However, they are not ready to meet their father’s unusual new companion, which causes a surprise and forces the family to look at the situation from a different point of view. The play is based on the play of the contemporary British playwright Peter Quilter, which is the second production of this author’s work at the Daugavpils Theater.
A director on the power of comedy
Director Herbert Luckstein emphasizes that comedy is a powerful genre that allows you to talk about important topics through humor, referring to Charlie Chaplin’s statement that “every day you don’t laugh is lost.” He adds that classics such as Gogol and Chekhov also spoke about serious matters with a smile. Laukshtein was touched by the themes of loneliness and family values touched on in the play, especially emphasizing that the stereotype of children as a factor preventing loneliness in old age does not always correspond to the reality of life. The show also shows that being in love is a bit funny because there is an element of madness in love.
Actress and creative team
The main role – Harry – will be played by actor Marħers Eglinskis. Set designer Aigars Ozoliņš, costume designer Gatis Timofejevs, choreographer Irina Bogerukas and lighting designer Mārtiņš Feldmanis worked in the creative team of the show. The performance in Latvian will take place on March 14 at 18:00.
