Honoring Daegu’s Literary Heritage Through Performance

The Daegu Concert House, in collaboration with the Daegu literature Museum, is set to host a unique concert experience on July 25th at 7:30 PM in the Concert House Chamber Hall. This event, a highlight of the ‘2025 Daegu Literature Week,’ aims to celebrate the rich literary history of Daegu and reinforce its status as a UNESCO-designated City of Music.

A fusion of Literary Recitation and Musical Innovation

The concert will feature newly composed hybrid songs by ten of Daegu’s leading composers. These pieces will be brought to life by a talented ensemble of local artists, including sopranos lee Kyung-jin and Hur Eun-jung, tenor Ahn hye-chan, baritones Lee Ho-jun and Seo Jung-hyuk, and pianists Park Sun-min and Yoon Ji-min. Adding another layer of artistic expression, ten members of a local recital association will interweave literary recitations throughout the performance.

A Journey Through Korean Literary Masterpieces

The first half of the concert will reimagine iconic works of Korean modern literature through piano and vocal arrangements.Expect to hear interpretations of pieces such as ‘Prayer,’ ‘Dialect,’ ‘Lee Sang-hwa’s Fireflies,’ and ‘Forget-me-not.’ A particularly anticipated segment will see the classic tale of ‘Lucky Day‘ portrayed with a blend of Gayageum melodies and vocal performance, capturing the protagonist’s complex emotions.

Celebrating Daegu’s Poetic Voices

The second part of the program will showcase the works of prominent Daegu poets, including ‘Spring Sea,’ ‘Longing,’ ‘Cheongpo Island,’ and ‘Culture.’ The concert will culminate with a performance of ‘Remaining Words,’ leaving the audience with a lasting impression of Daegu’s literary spirit.

Free admission and High Demand

The sheet music for the newly composed songs will be available for viewing at the chamber hall on the day of the performance. While admission to the concert is free, pre-booking is required, and tickets are already sold out, reflecting the high level of anticipation for this event.

More Literary Festivities

Complementing the concert, the Daegu Literature museum will host a week-long series of events from July 22nd to 27th. These activities will include exhibitions of local artists’ books, interactive experiences, collaborative novel writing, and opportunities to create personalized sentences and bookmarks, offering a diverse range of ways to engage with literature.
