Ales Vytecka is the director of the agency of the Czech Ministry of Defense who coordinates the international initiative launched in 2024 by the government of the pro-European curator Petr Fiala to deliver ammunition to Ukraine. While Andrej Babis, the favorite of the legislative elections organized on Friday October 3 and Saturday October 3, harshly criticizes this program, Mr. Vytecka recalls that this initiative, made it possible to deliver 3.5 million large caliber in the army of kyiv in the space of eighteen months.
Can you describe how this Czech initiative for ammunition was born?
In October 2023, the US Congress had just blocked an aid for Ukraine, putting an end to the flow of money and ammunition from the United States, while at the same time, all the leaders of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, including Minister Oleksii Reznikov, had been limited [en raison d’accusations de corruption].
In February 2024, we thus realized that Ukraine had a disadvantage of approximately one to ten concerning the artillery shells used every day against the Russians, while we knew that there were many producers and stocks of ammunition in the world, of Western and Soviet calibers. Our president and our Prime Minister said that we could help Ukraine more if we had more money.
