CD Projekt Red has a fresh update as part of its new financial report Cyberpunk 2 given – and at the same time confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 has now sold over 35 million copies became. The strong result serves as a financial foundation for the studio while work on the successor slowly gains momentum.
Cyberpunk 2: Still very early in development
The new report confirms: The successor, no longer called “Project Orion” internally, is still there in der Pre-Production. Around 135 developers are currently working on it and the trend is increasing. According to the Polish developer, the name “Cyberpunk 2” is currently just a placeholder.
Although it is still very early, some exciting information has accumulated in the last few months. The game should:
- a second, new big city introduce. According to Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith It should seem like a “Chicago gone wrong” – harder, darker and even more broken than Night City.
- more reactive NPCs, a more vibrant city system and more diverse play styles offer, all of this emerges from previous job advertisements.
- Online or multiplayer elements receive. CDPR was explicitly looking for developers with experience in online systems, a feature that was originally planned for Cyberpunk 2077 but was canceled.
When will Cyberpunk 2 be released?
Here CD Projekt Red is very clear: Not before 2030. Co-Studio Manager Michał Nowakowski explained that the studio is currently focusing on The Witcher 4, which has also been in production for some time (via IGN.com). Only then will Cyberpunk 2 enter the hot phase.
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is real, but still years away. The development is slowly growing, the first details outline an ambitious project with a new city, improved systems and a possible online component. For fans this means a long wait, but a clear view of the direction in which the cyberpunk universe is developing.
