Córdoba Becomes a Hub for Youth Table Tennis
Córdoba is currently hosting the WTT Youth Contender table tennis tournament alongside the South American U-15 and U-19 championships. These events have drawn over 600 athletes from 17 countries, positioning Córdoba as a rising destination for sports tourism.
The participating nations include a diverse range of countries such as India, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Argentina, Ecuador, Portugal, Uruguay, the United States, Paraguay, China Taipei, and Colombia.
Economic Impact and Regional Development
Governor Erasmus Zuleta Bechara emphasized the significance of these events for the region’s economy. He stated that hosting such international competitions stimulates economic growth and puts Córdoba and Montería on the map.
These will be two international events, with more than 600 athletes from more than 17 countries for several days here, in our capital, which continues to boost economic growth, making visible Córdoba, making visible Montería and make visible the regions of Colombia. The governor also highlighted the potential for job creation, noting that each tourist arrival generates between five and seven formal jobs. The tournaments, which began on May 13th and will continue until May 24th, feature matches held continuously on over 20 tables. The departmental management has announced that admission to the Miguel ‘Happy’ Lora Coliseum is free,inviting fans to enjoy the tournament’s various stages from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.

According to a recent report by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, sports-related travel contributed over $200 million to the national economy in the past year alone.
